Nylon Target Audience (Genre Research)

Image
Based on all that I have discussed in my previous genre research posts, I believe that the target audience for nylon are women in their early to mid twenties who are feminists or at least interested in motivating and supporting themselves and other women. I deduced this from the models, the colors and fonts, and the topics they talk about.      As you may have noticed all the models are generally young, although they are mostly in their late twenties to early early thirties I still believe the magazine is aimed for women younger than them because they are like inspiration, someone to look up to. The models talk from experience and represent the women that others want to be in the next few years. You can tell this from the way they talk in the spreads. Like I mentioned in an earlier most Gabourey Sibiles talks about her youth (I grew up pretending I was okay when I wasn't) and so does Abbi Jacobson when she mentions that when she was younger she didn't thi...

Nylon Spreads (Genre Research)

Image
Just skimming over the feature spreads I knew that I loved the layout, font, color package, and photography involved in the Gabourey and the Abbi issues. However, I did not like most of the visual components in the Marina issue. The Marina issue is older than the other two which explains why the issues constantly have differences in design.          All of the spreads are focused on the model in the front cover of the magazine which makes sense because if the reader is purchasing the magazine from the cover alone it's likely because of who is on it. There are various photographs of the model in the spread (one in every other page, if not all) which is something I really liked. Additionally, I liked that the pictures ran into the next page because it makes the magazine flow easily and it makes it so the layout is not bland, square, and uptight. The only catch is that I was looking at the magazine online but I don't quite know how that wou...

Nylon Table of Contents (Genre Research)

Image
Honestly, I have never really paid much attention to the table of contents of a magazine so when I started looking at this one I didn't know what to look at exactly. However, I did know that I liked this specific style of table of contents. Nylon's table of contents is simple and 2-paged. I figured two pages is appropriate for the magazine's length which is approximately 150-170. The pages always features one woman in each page. They are of different ethnicity and always embody boldness and confidence, as you can see in the April table of contents. Usually the models are looking at the camera to demonstrate their confidence and to really strike the reader. I like this because it creates intimacy between the reader and the model as if they had something to say that you want to hear about. For me it shows the strength and uniqueness of women which is something I want to demonstrate in my own magazine.      There are no more images aside from that of the ...
