Photo Shoot Planning

I can't believe I am already planning for my photo shoot! As I have mentioned previously I am using my sister as the main model for the cover and feature spread of my magazine. She is 24 so she is not too young and not too old for my target audience which is perfect. She is a police officer so I want to get her in her uniform. I spoke to her and she told me I had to wardrobes to pick from: her classic police uniform (blue with the patches on the side, button up) or her tactical uniform which is a white t-shirt with her black bullet proof vest and black cargo pants. I have decided to go with her tactical uniform. Since it is black and white it will give me the opportunity to put in more colorful text for the cover.
If I had gone with her classic uniform then I would have wanted to match the colors of her clothes with the color scheme of the font and the bland blue would not have been the bold look I was going for. I want to get her picture taken from the waist up but I will also make sure to get a full body picture just to play around with it. I don't want to put any makeup on her and want her to look as natural as possible because red lipstick just wouldn't match with a bulletproof vest, now would it? I want her hair to be up in a bun just like she would do for work but I want her to smile for the picture so she can be more approachable to the reader. This way I can get a strong powerful picture that won't scare off the reader and show part of her feminine side.
For the feature spread where I will show her more fun loving "girly" side, For this I want her hair to be loose and I still don't want to put too much makeup on her because I going to do a more "fun in the sun" picture. I'm going to do this type of picture because I have this hot pink life saver that I want to use as a prop that will add a lot of color to the page. I want her to be smiling in this picture as well with her head tilted a bit just to have a floaty fun looking image. I'm going to have her wear shorts and probably a white t-shirt to contrast with the pink life preserver.
As for the table of contents, I don't think I am going to have any actual models for that post but I have to see I think I might take a more flowery picture to include in there where I have the model wear flowers in her hair to finally put in that flower touch I wanted to. I am going to ask my friend Jenny if she would like to be the model for this picture. If she agrees, I will have her wear something flowy and girly for the table of contents. Mostly for the table of contents I want to make these circles with the page numbers on them and the picture in the background like maybe a more natural picture of flowers, books, makeup, etc. I want it to look kind of like the circle on the right but instead of it being black I would put the pictures dealing with the topic behind the number as the circle.
I am excited to take these pictures and will be taking them soon this week.

     Up to now I have been heavily inspired by flowers. I think they are beautiful in the colors they produce and to me represent femininity not just in the traditional sense but also, at least for me, represent empowerment and strength. Specifically I thought of the picture of a woman during the Vietnam war who held up a flower to soldiers. Therefore, I thought to name my magazine "Flowers that Empower," "Flowers" referring to the women that would be featured in the magazine. I decided against it because I just wasn't convinced and I didn't really want to call the women featured flowers because of the connotation (for many people) of flowers being fragile and delicate. I then thought to name the magazine "Women in Bloom" which I liked more. However, I thought it sounded like I was aiming at an adolescent audience by saying that they were "in bloom." Mood Board

     Putting together my mood board for my magazine really helped me realized what kinds of colors, fonts, textures, and photos I want for my actual magazine. It also helped direct my idea from a vague concept to a more specific one.      As I was looking through the different magazines from which I cut my pictures and words, I realized that I want a brighter color scheme to reflect my magazines theme about happiness and optimism.  In the image I tried to include a lot of green and yellow with pops of red, which I circled in red to the left. At first, I had issues picking out the colors. I had purple and pink in mind, but I had to go with yellow and green because it just fit my magazine so well. The green is very natural looking and bright like a grass green rather than the darker shades of green like olive which will relate to the natural vibe I want to go for. Planning for Cover Updated

     Since I last posted I have been thinking quite a bit about the format of my cover and the title of it. I know I love flowers and since the beginning have been heavily inspired by them but I just realized that it won't go too well with the picture I plan to shoot for the cover. I want the model to be in her police uniform and I feel like that doesn't match the "flower vibe" and although I said I wanted to do the two sides of her I just don't think that it would look nice. I have been researching how to shoot and edit a picture like that but I have yet to see a magazine cover with that idea executed nicely. For that reason, I am just going to focus on one picture of my model and in the feature spread I will look at her "both sides."        For the title, since I am not doing the flowers on the cover I want to change the title to something else: power.
