Putting My Cover Together
When I began doing my cover I knew many things, I just had to put them together. Because of my previous posts, I already knew what headlines and anchorage I would be using for my cover, what I wanted my masthead to look like (font included), the picture I was going to use, and more or less the colors I would include.
I began by opening a blank page in Photoshop the first thing I put in was the picture of my model and put in smack in the center. Then I chose the franklin font that I had picked out during my planning and typed out "P WER." I left a space for the venus sign I was going to include. Here I decided what color I wanted the venus sign be. I knew I wanted my background to be pink to contrast with the white letters but I had trouble picking out the color of the venus sign, believe it or not.
I didn't know whether to leave it white like the rest of the masthead or not but I eventually decided that I would change the color to make sure it would stand out. It was between a hot pink one of a black one and I ended up choosing the black one since my background was already going to be pink. I played around with the text sizes and positioning until I found just the way I liked it. I think this was the most time consuming part of the cover. All the letters except the masthead and main anchorage has outlining to make sure it stands out and doesn't blend in the background. I wasn't quite sure whether to put the yellow outline on both anchorages on the top but I ended up doing it anyways.
Another effect I added to the text was warping the 10 on top so that way not all of the cover would be linear. I personally love the pops of yellow throughout the cover, it was exactly what I was talking about when I said I wanted bold colors. Speaking of, I think that the back has a nice bold color as well.
At the beginning I was going to use a more pale pink but I decided against it because I wanted a cover that grabbed the readers attention and I think pale pink is something that is easy to forget, if that makes sense. The last effect I added was to put a bit of texture to the cover's background. I used the marble texture because it was subtle, I wanted depth to avoid the background from looking like a solid block of color but for it to not look grainy or bumpy.
Overall, I love how my cover turned out, the color scheme, the placement of text, masthead, main photo, everything!
