Photo Shoot
So, I finished my photo shoot! I had a lot of fun playing around with the outfits, poses and hairstyles. First I am going to talk about my cover photo shoot with my sister. As I had planned, I had her wear her tactical uniform: a black vest, white t-shirt, and black cargo pants. She wore no makeup and had her hair up in a bun. I decided to take the pictures with my cellphone because I think it has a nice camera and the photos come out in nice quality. This is aside from the fact that I do not own a fancy camera, sadly.
First I had her test out a serious pose just to see how it would look which you can see in picture number one obviously it didn't exude friendliness and in my opinion, would probable scare off the reader. Once I took that picture I realized that there is no way I am going to use that on my cover so I knew she was going to be smiling. Next was to see how much of her I wanted in the picture, full body, waist up, or just face? I knew that definitely didn't want to take a picture of just her face because she had on no makeup and her hair was picked up so I thought it would be a little bland. This is why I tested between full body pictures and waist up pictures which you can see in picture 2 and 3. I realized that I liked waist up pictures much more and thought that it would fit the magazine frame better. Now all that was left to angle her correctly and capture a genuine smile. I took a picture of her facing straight (3) at the camera but I decided that it looked way too much like a mugshot to be honest so I began to angle her and realized and finally came to the picture that I wanted to use which is the 4th picture in the sequence above. On my phone, I have the ability to add effects while taking the photo. I tried to do that and took some pictures but did not like how they turned out, they looked too artificial and over edited so I stopped using it altogether. As for the background, I just took it in her room against a gray wall because I knew that I wanted to remove the background and replace it with maybe a light pink block of color.
The next session was the feature spread one where I previously mentioned I wanted to take it with a pink life preserver and I did just that! Blowing it up took quite some time but I know that it was worth it because I really like the color it is going to add to the magazine. Before I started the shoot, I braided her hair on the side so she could look more playful although I don't really think you can tell in the pictures. I also told her to wear exactly what I had planned for in my earlier post, a white t-shirt and shorts. For the setting, I went outside to my backyard where I just asked my sister to have fun and start laughing so I could capture a fun moment. As you can tell, I took various pictures from all sorts of angles and honestly have yet to decide which I will actually include in the feature spread. I don't know exactly how I going to narrow this down but I guess I will figure it out when I get to the feature spread..ha...ha...ha. For this session I didn't even try to use the effects already in my phone because of how they turned out in the first session but because of the sunlight outdoors there was nice lighting. There are quite a bit so I inserted a slideshow of them.
The last session was for the table of contents and since I have a vague idea of what exactly I want to be on there I took many pictures, even some with me in them! First I took pictures of my friend jenny with a flower in her hair and shiny makeup to show a more girly side of the magazine. Once again, since I don't really know exactly the plan I took various pictures ranging from close ups of her face to pictures of her full body. We did this outside while the sun was out so we could get some nice lighting. The hardest part was taking the pictures with me in them because I had to stand up my phone with a makeshift holder (a couple cans and books) and get into the picture in time for the timer to snap the shot. In addition to this I took some pictures of flowers in my backyard. I think as I get closer to creating the table of contents I will take more specific pictures but at least for now I have all the pictures that include models. Below I just inserted one picture that I know I really want to include in the table of contents and the rest I will display while I talk about the table of contents.
