My Cover!

Putting My Cover Together

Image
When I began doing my cover I knew many things, I just had to put them together. Because of my previous posts, I already knew what headlines and anchorage I would be using for my cover, what I wanted my masthead to look like (font included), the picture I was going to use, and more or less the colors I would include.      I began by opening a blank page in Photoshop the first thing I put in was the picture of my model and put in smack in the center. Then I chose the franklin font that I had picked out during my planning and typed out "P WER." I left a space for the venus sign I was going to include. Here I decided what color I wanted the venus sign be. I knew I wanted my background to be pink to contrast with the white letters but I had trouble picking out the color of the venus sign, believe it or not. I didn't know whether to leave it white like the rest of the masthead or not but I eventually decided that I would change the color to make sure ...

Photo Editing

Image
While I was editing I realized that it is very tedious to do and extremely time consuming so I obviously began with my cover photo. At first I thought I might use the photo that she was facing straight towards the camera and removed the background on Adobe Photoshop. I did the same for the picture I took at an angle and then decided I wanted the angled picture. I also used the background eraser tool to remove a part of her shirt that was semi-untucked which was pretty neat because if not I would have had to go back and take the picture again or put it on the magazine like that. After I finished with everything to do with the background I checked to see if I could make the picture more vibrant. I set the vibrancy a bit up to  make her skin glow and also put auto contrast which made the black in her vest pop out a bit more. It was my first time working with a picture in Photoshop and I did not want to add too many effects because throughout my posts I have mentioned I wanted a nat...

Photo Shoot

Image
So, I finished my photo shoot! I had a lot of fun playing around with the outfits, poses and hairstyles. First I am going to talk about my cover photo shoot with my sister. As I had planned, I had her wear her tactical uniform: a black vest, white t-shirt, and black cargo pants. She wore no makeup and had her hair up in a bun. I decided to take the pictures with my cellphone because I think it has a nice camera and the photos come out in nice quality. This is aside from the fact that I do not own a fancy camera, sadly. First I had her test out a serious pose just to see how it would look which you can see in picture number one obviously it didn't exude friendliness and in my opinion, would probable scare off the reader. Once I took that picture I realized that there is no way I am going to use that on my cover so I knew she was going to be smiling. Next was to see how much of her I wanted in the picture, full body, waist up, or just face? I knew that definitely didn't want to ...

Photo Shoot Planning

Image
I can't believe I am already planning for my photo shoot! As I have mentioned previously I am using my sister as the main model for the cover and feature spread of my magazine. She is 24 so she is not too young and not too old for my target audience which is perfect. She is a police officer so I want to get her in her uniform. I spoke to her and she told me I had to wardrobes to pick from: her classic police uniform (blue with the patches on the side, button up) or her tactical uniform which is a white t-shirt with her black bullet proof vest and black cargo pants. I have decided to go with her tactical uniform. Since it is black and white it will give me the opportunity to put in more colorful text for the cover. If I had gone with her classic uniform then I would have wanted to match the colors of her clothes with the color scheme of the font and the bland blue would not have been the bold look I was going for. I want to get her picture taken from the waist up but I will als...
